Dr. Roberto Polanco heads up the anesthesia department at The MIAMI Institute, directing the practices of local and general anesthesia and ensuring the most up- to-date anesthetic options are offered to every patient. His training, compassion and dedication to safety is reflected in the elite level of care provided to patients at The Institute regardless of procedure. His work has been recognized nationally and in both 2006 and 2007, Dr. Polanco was named one of the top anesthesiologists in the U.S. by Consumers Research Council of America.
Dr. Polanco studied anesthesiology at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital where most of his training was in trauma anesthesia. He also completed medical training at Mount Sinai Hospital in Miami Beach which included three years of general surgery. Prior to joining The MIAMI Institute, Dr. Polanco worked as a staff anesthesiologist at Kendall Hospital in Miami. In addition to his expertise in anesthesia, Dr. Polanco has long been interested in regional anesthesia and post-operative pain relief and operates a private pain management practice.
Dr. Polanco is a member of The American Society of Anesthesiologists and The Florida Society of Anesthesiologists, as well as The American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, The Florida Academy of Pain Medicine, The Society of Airway Management, The American Academy of Pain Medicine and several other professional organizations.
