Men may benefit greatly from this surgery, correcting an aspect of the appearance of the ears that is keeping you from being confident socially or professionally. In some cases, one or both ears have been injured while playing sports or in an accident. In others, genetics gave you your grandfather’s large ears and they just don’t suit you. Whatever your reasons, ear surgery is a real option.

Adults in good health can enjoy the benefits of this cosmetic procedure at nearly any age.

One of many surgical techniques may be suggested to improve the appearance of your ear or ears. The particular technique that your plastic surgeon recommends will depend on the nature of the problem and your desired outcome. Ears are very unique to the individual, so results will be unique to you, fitting your head and face shape and your personal taste. Your plastic surgeon will select the surgical technique that he or she feels will obtain the best outcome for you.

If you are seeking to correct protruding ears, the cartilage is reshaped in order to position your ears closer to your head. This usually is accomplished through incisions placed behind the ears. Subsequent scars will be concealed in the natural skin crease. In some cases, especially in ears that need to be reduced in size or are protruding in the middle 1/3 of the ear, incisions on the outside surface of the ear will be made. Usually these are placed in areas where they will heal in an inconspicuous manner.

In ear surgery for men, when the size of the ear needs to be reduced to achieve the desired outcome, most often skin as well as cartilage will be removed and incisions will be concealed for optimal aesthetic outcome.
