THE MIAMI INSTITUTE FOR AGE MANAGEMENT & INTERVENTION

First Atkins, then it was South Beach, now it’s the White Food Diet

The most unattractive thing about a smile is discolored teeth, according to a recent American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) consumer poll; and the numbers prove it. Whitening treatments are the number one requested cosmetic dental procedure and have increased more than 300% since 1996, according to the AACD.

“We’ve all heard about foods that can stain teeth but we are now looking at foods that can help whiten them” says the MIAMI Institute for Age Management and Intervention’s
renowned Cosmetic Dentist, Dr. Julio Hernandez.

Foods such as apples, pears, celery, carrots, cauliflower, and cucumbers produce saliva which combines with the food’s natural fibers to naturally clean teeth and remove bacteria. Strawberries will naturally whiten teeth. Lemons will lighten and brighten too. Avoid drinking coffee, dark syrup sodas, red wine and blueberries. All stain teeth quickly. Drink from a straw whenever possible since it allows food dyes to bypass teeth altogether. Baking soda will help remove stains and build up. Brush it on your teeth twice a month, just as you would toothpaste, and rinse. Raw veggies are not only healthy to eat, but they will clean your teeth and the remove topical stains.

The MIAMI Institute’s teeth whitening treatments, along with the White Teeth Diet, can gradually lighten stained or discolored teeth using a peroxide gel. The procedure also corrects the yellowing in teeth due to aging. Also available is an in-office ‘Power Whitening’ option where high concentration peroxide gel is applied to the teeth and activated by a special light. The procedure takes about one to 1 to 1.5 hours.
