Are porcelain restorations that entirely cover or “cap” a tooth. They can be made entirely of porcelain or have some kind of substructure like metal or zirconium. They are recommended in areas where the underlying tooth is weak due to large restorations, fractures, or previous root canal treatment. They may also be recommended simply to improve the tooth’s appearance.
CEREC “one-visit” crowns use CAD-CAM computer technology to fabricate the restoration in the office, eliminating the need for a second appointment or a temporary crown. A crown covers only one tooth while a bridge is two or more crowns joined together. Bridges can be made to support loose teeth or replace missing teeth. A bridge spans the space where one or more teeth are missing and helps maintain the natural shape of your face and provides support for your lips and cheeks.
Advantages:
- Permanently cemented to the underlying tooth
- Restores tooth form and function
- Helps mask dark underlying teeth
- Bridges replace missing teeth quicker than implants
- Crowns can be completed in one visit with CEREC
